Angora Rabbits in Minnesota

Our new yarns are beginning to arrive fresh from the mill!  We have a new 60/40 blend of Shetland and Angora and a new 60/40 blend of soft Corriedale and Angora.  Both yarns are sold in 300 yard skeins for $28.00 in a DK weight.  Please click on the images to see them close up … they are elegant and  lovely, perfect for a warm hand-knit sweater.

On February 1st we will be adding our white Corriedale/Angora blend to our store.  It is beautiful, worsted weight and the skein is 200 yards.

We have added some new ‘Woolen Embroidery’ items for those of you who cross over from one needleart to another.  We are offering some patterns we’ve done with hand-dyed wool and some simple embroidery patterns that are favorites of ours. We’re hoping you enjoy them too.

Thank you for checking in with us.  Keep safe and warm during these weeks when Winter has its grip!  May God bless you and your families.

Greetings from our wool garden this new year!  We are happily updating our web-site with better information about our yarns, new products and pictures and rabbit and wool information.

Our new year’s worth of wool-into-yarn is coming from the mill very soon!  Please visit back in February to see the beautiful Angora and wool blends.  We will have our wonderful Shetland/Angora 60/40 blend which is a beautiful heathered gray.   New this year is a lovely Corriedale/Angora 60/40 blend of black and gray and an elegant Corriedale/Angora 60/40 blend of creamy white.

Very specially, we will have a new wool, angora rabbit blend called ‘Autumn~Winter’ – it’s creamy, soft and beige.

The blends are all natural colors and we will have some differing weights beside our basic DK.  We also now have Corriedale/Angora 60/40 clouded roving for handspinners in Heathered Gray.  It is very soft and spins up beautifully.

Please visit the sight to see what is new!  Beginning this year, you can find us at angoragardens.com and angoragardens@gmail.com.  Our new name is the fruit of more rabbits than sheep and seemed fitting ~  Thank you for all your contacts this past year.  Best wishes and warm regards for a very blessed 2011.  God Bless you and your families.  Warm regards from ours!

Greetings and warm wishes from Shepherds Garden!

Thank you for visiting our blog!  The Angora rabbits and sheep, including one beautiful little Shetland ram lamb, are all in full coat this time of year.  As we begin our rabbit shearing, its marvelous to weigh coats that come to nearly a pound of angora.

The very little rabbit that is underneath this pound of wool is about a 5 – 6  pound doe or buck and you would not think it was the same animal after shearing!  Here, on our farm, we simply use a barber shears and gently trim away.  The rabbits have such docile temperaments and cooperate so nicely, it’s a joy.

We will be combining some gray and white angora with our black Shetland soon.  The combination produces a very soft, beautiful yarn.  The coloring and texture are so unique and one-of-a-kind.  Please check back when we will have photos to post for you.

Thank you for your patronage.  We appreciate all our customers and hope to continue to provide you with some very special yarn created by combining different wools in natural colors and a variety of Corriedale, Shetland and Rambioullet sheep wool.

We would like to offer a free Angora rabbit to the first customer who comments on this blog with some feed-back or requests that you might like to see coming from a fiber farm …  The only qualification is that you be from southern Minnesota and not too far north of the Twin Cities area (for delivery sake).  Please send your name and contact information to shepherdsgarden@gmail.com and we will provide you with a new little chocolate doe or buck whichever you would like.

Warm regards from Shepherds Garden

We are very happy to offer a blog where we hope to keep you up-to-date on the rabbits and yarns from Shepherds Garden! Please feel free to write to us and share whatever you would like or ask any questions. We will always try to help.

Currently we have a beautiful new litter of German/French kits who are ready to go. We have two white males and five chocolates, a mix of does and bucks.

We also have two very beautiful black/gray kits that are a little older, ready for weaing. These have a very sweet French look and are colored lightly. Any of our young bunnies this summer are available for $45.00 with pedigree.

Sheep shearing is finished and so bunny shearing is next! These wools will soon go to mill and we hope to have these yarns available in the fall on the site.

We would like to publish our gratitude to Matzke Media House who designed our web-site and continues to give us excellent support. We highly recommend their expertise and professional help in this technical age! www.matzkemedia.com or e-mail at design@matzkemedia.com.

We would love to hear from you, share patterns that you have used with our yarn. We’re here to answer any bunny questions.

Wishing you a beautiful summer with your families.
Warm regards,
Mary Lou

Thank you for visiting Shepherd’s Garden!

We are a little hilltop farm and rabbitry. Our harvested wool from Angora rabbits and sheep is blended to produce an especially soft and warm wool for knitters and handspinners. We blend Corriedale wool and Shetland wool with angora to make a soft, next-to-the-skin, yarn.

We offer a variety of Angora rabbits for sale – German, English and French crosses. We raise these primarily for fiber; they are also wonderful pets.

We offer private hand-spinning lessons to help you learn the beginning art of spinning wool into yarn.

Please take a stroll through our garden, enjoy it and contact us if you have questions or see something we can help you with. Warm regards from Shepherd’s Garden.
